MultiSkilling - Electrical Skills for Mechanical Staff

Aims

To train mechanical staff in electrical skills to enable them to carry out basic electrical work safely. This course can be customized to suit your requirements.

Objectives

At the end of the course delegates will have had basic instruction in:

1. Safe and correct use of tools and equipment
2. Reading diagrams, including schematic.
3. Appreciation of relevant electrical regulations
4. Identify electrical components
5. Safe use of a range of electrical test instruments
6. Circuit isolation
7. Use of techniques for electrical maintenance purposes

The Course Covers

• Electrical Safety - Use of protective clothing, insulated tools and rubber mats
• Circuit Protection - Fuses, miniature circuit breakers (MCB's), residual current devices (RCD's).
• Test Equipment - Practice with multimeters (AVO), Insulation tester (MEGGER), Loop Impedance Meter, Ammeter and Voltmeter.
• Earthing and Bonding - Basic principles
• Wiring - Cable connectors to plugs, basic lighting circuits and basic power circuits.
• Switchgear - Switch fuses, isolators and various connections.
• Transformers - Step-up, step down, auto transformers
• Three Phase Motors - Rotating magnetic field, induction motor, slip ring motor
• Motor Starters - Principles,
• Starters and Contactors - Primary and secondary circuits, thermal and magnetic overloads, control circuit, faults and remedies

Certification

Participants are assessed and tested during the course. A pass certificate will be issued to persons reaching the required standard.
