“This programme is all you need to train Fire Wardens and if your company has 5 or more staff it needs Fire Wardens.”

RESPONSIBILITIES

The person who owns or controls the business or premises is responsible for the safety of the Employees and other RELEVANT PERSONS by properly managing the following:

  • Fire Risk Assessment
  • Fire Safety Policy
  • Fire Procedures (such as evacuation)
  • Staff Training
  • Fire Drills
  • Means of Escape
  • Signs and Notices
  • Emergency Lighting
  • Fire Alarm
  • Fire Extinguishers
  • Fire Doors and Compartments

The Responsible Person must appoint one or more Competent Person(s) to assist in the delivery of the above.

Failure to carry out these responsibilities may result in Enforcement by the Enforcing Authority through the actions of an Inspector. Conviction for failing to comply may lead to a penalty consisting of a fine or up to two years’ imprisonment.

COMPETENT PERSON
COMPETENCE IS DEMONSTRATED
THROUGH SUFFICIENT TRAINING,
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE.

A Competent Person must be appointed to carry out Fire Fighting duties (where appropriate), contact the Emergency Services, and assist in evacuations. This person would typically be a “Fire Warden”.

This programme has been designed to train your Fire Wardens. It will help to ensure that you operate within the law and protect your workforce and business.

1. Background

This section covers the basics including how a fire spreads through a building, the danger of smoke, the causes and costs of fire, how to reduce the risks of fire, understanding signage and where signs should be placed.

2. Fire Prevention

This section explains the importance of a safe working environment, it explains what a fire risk assessment is and what
it means to the Fire Warden, it looks at risks and the significance of planning and conducting fire evacuation drills.

3. Fire Evacuation

This section looks at human behaviour and how people react in a fire related situation – it demonstrates how critical the role of a Fire Warden is and also the procedures the Fire Warden needs to follow to conduct a safe evacuation.

4. Fire First Aid

This section looks at and explains the different classes of fire, the different types of fire extinguisher and how to operate them – and which extinguishers to use on each class of fire.

5. Legislation

This presenter-led section explains the legislation in a straightforward way. It is simple to understand and concentrates on the relevant part of the legislation.

6. Test

After completing the programme the trainee Fire Warden sits a  multiple-choice test, which is evidenced by a printable certificate.

The stand-alone CDROM is ideal for the smaller company.

  • The CDROM can be used as many times and by as many people as necessary.
  • It is simple to use and runs directly from the CDROM so there are no files to install or uninstall.
  • Training is evidenced by a printable certificate.
